GB News predicts ‘Irexit’ – with 18% backing

The right wing channel claimed Ireland was heading for an exit on the basis of a poll showing support for membership had plummeted to, er, 82%

Angelos Frangopoulos, Australian CEO of GB News, is given to making portentous claims for his shrill right wing channel. “Serving people and bringing light to darkness, that’s what I think we do,” he said earlier this year,
and last week told the Telegraph that GBeebies “strived to pioneer new ideas” while “breaking countless stories on the national stage”.

In recent days, the GB News website has brought light to darkness by breaking a remarkable story. ‘“Irexit” looms as Irish support for EU membership falls to lowest level in over a decade” read the headline on a
piece by James Saunders that discussed the findings of “a damning new poll”.

This turned out to show that support for remaining in the EU stands at 82%, down two points from last year. With a whopping 18% demanding that the country leaves, can Irexit be far away?
