It’s election day again which means photographs of dogs at polling stations is trending again on Twitter.
This recent tradition has become an essential part of polling days for the social media generation, almost as synonymous as David Dimbleby presenting the BBC election coverage and Jeremy Vine leaping around our screens as the results poured in.
The Twitter trend became a ‘thing’ back in 2015 when users started to question whether dogs are allowed at polling station. Given the perceived importance of this topic it soon started to trend across the country as users snapped pictures of their pooches.
Last year the hashtag #dogsatpollingstations was a welcome addition to the voting process as election fatigue set in.
The dogs might not understand what’s going on, they might not necessarily have an opinion on bin collections, but they certainly appear to love democracy. Here are some highlights from this year’s local elections.
