TV’s Ed Balls hides his lights under a bushel

The Good Morning Britain presenter is the star attraction at a Christmas switch-on but there's something missing from his CV

To Highbury Barn, north London, where excitement is building for Sunday’s big switch on of the lamentable handful of Christmas lights Islington Borough Council provides its residents.

This year’s megastar switcher-onner is none other than Ed Balls, described on the official poster as “Good Morning Britain Presenter and Strictly Come Dancing Contestant”.

Clearly nothing comes close to being at Susanna Reid’s side at the GMB desk, but surely a mention of his past life as economic secretary to the Treasury and shadow chancellor might have got a look in?

Telly’s Ed will be doing the honours at 5.30pm on Sunday, accompanied by the St Joan Of Arc Band and Choir but not by Mrs Ed Balls, better known as home secretary Yvette Cooper.
