‘Is this a parody account?’ – Twitter baffled by Kate Hoey’s Irish border solution

Brexiteers have made some pretty daft comments about the Irish border recently, but this could be the worst of all.

Labour Leaver Kate Hoey has said that the solution to the Irish border issue would be a ‘backstop around the entire British isles’ so that the Republic of Ireland becomes a part of the UK too.

This would mean that Ireland would be pulled out of the EU too – a country where 92% of residents polled in May 2018 to stay in.

Her tweet received much ridicule – comedian Stephen Mangan asked if it was the ‘most stupid tweet of 2018 so far?’

Tara O’Donovan had a better idea suggesting we ‘extend our border around the entire Irish Isles and then the UK can remain part of the EU too’ while Joel Taylor went even further – ‘why not around the whole of the UK while you’re at it?’

She later claimed on Twitter that people had missed the ‘sense of irony’ in her post.

Kate Hoey recently claimed the reason so many young people were in support of the Remain cause was because they had been ‘indoctrinated’ by their university lecturers.
