Actress and film director Cate Blanchett has hit out at the politicians behind the UK’s exit from the European Union branding their actions as ‘lazy incompetence’.

The award-winning Australian actress – who has a spent a lot of her life living in England – was interviewed by Harper’s Bazaar about British politics and the #MeToo movement.

She has strong views on Brexit and hit out at the politicians behind the Leave vote and referendum like David Cameron, Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage.

‘The rage I feel at the lazy incompetence of the men who set this in motion,’ she exclaimed.

‘Whichever way you voted, you cannot but be disappointed in the way the architects of Brexit have behaved.’

Blanchett also discussed the Me Too movement, calling it ‘an incredibly important concept’.

She explained: ‘I think the biggest and most profound change I’ve felt is the way women are talking to each other — that has really shifted. We didn’t want to be seen to be a problem, or tell other women we had issues.’

Blanchett is to appear in Eli Roth’s adaptation of The House with a Clock in Its Walls which is released next month.
