On tour: Remain’s supergroup leading charge against Brexit

An anti-Brexit boyband has set off on their first European tour – and already they are wowing the crowds.

Sir Nick Clegg, Lord Heseltine and Lord Adonis kicked off their tour of European capitals in Dublin by bashing Theresa May over the Irish border issue.

Former deputy prime minister Sir Nick said: ‘We remain as perplexed as anyone else does about exactly how they are going to navigate this fundamental conundrum of creating a border but not wanting to police a border.

‘Michael, Andrew and I come from different political parties, different political traditions but we are all united in a fervent belief that Brexit is not only being mis-handled at the moment but is also strategically a once-in-a-generation mistake of huge proportions for the United Kingdom while also weakening the European Union as well.

‘We will go back to London with a strong message to the Government that they can’t duck this issue any longer, they can’t avoid confronting the consequence of their own contradictions any longer.’

It is admirable that Clegg, Heseltine and New European columnist Adonis continuing fighting Brexit. And hopefully these three big names will achieve some cut-through.

But imagine if Remain could galvanise a true supergroup of all the living ex prime ministers: John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and David Cameron.

Love them or loathe them these are people with a huge amount of experience when it comes to high-level decisions. And they all agree Brexit is going to be a disaster.

Sadly Cameron – after skulking off in to the shadows post-referendum – has ruled any interventions on Brexit out. Maybe the other three don’t need him?
