Former England cricket ace Geoffrey Boycott has launched a bizarre tirade at Remainers.

The former England captain made the claim that those voting Remain were acting ‘like a spoilt child in the playground’.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain – and egged on by Piers Morgan – he made a bizarre comparison of a People’s Vote to cricket where the England team would be forced to keep aiming for ‘best out of five’ in a pre-match toss.

‘When Joe Root loses the toss and Kholi says for India ‘we’ll have a bat’, Joe should say ‘hang on a minute, it’s the best of three’. And then when Joe loses best of three, and Kholi says ‘we’ll still have a bat’ Joe should stand there and say ‘no, no, it’s the best of five, isn’t it?’

The 77-year-old claimed that those backing the fresh referendum ‘don’t believe in democracy’.

‘They just want to keep having a new vote until they get what they want.’

The star – who was convicted of assault on a former girlfriend in 1998 – added: ‘They’re like a spoilt child in the playground where in the old days the teacher would’ve given them a smack.’

Boycott also claimed that the PM had one of the most difficult jobs ‘since Winston Churchill in the war’.

He offered this piece of advice for May: ‘What she should do is believe in democracy, that’s what we all believe in; the vote has been made now let’s move on with it.’

Responding to the comments Chukka Ummuna MP said: ‘Brexit is not cricket. Cricket hasn’t done what Brexit has already done…

‘Part of the problem in 2016 people said it would be incredibly simple and easy like cricket and now we’re on the pitch we know it’s not!’
