A caller has been labelled a ‘bigot’ in a heated radio phone-in debate about the Home Office’s new video for EU nationals.

LBC Radio presenter Afua Hirsch reacted angry after caller David claimed ‘you don’t value being British’.

Hirsch responded furiously by saying that David summarised ‘everything that is toxic with the Brexit debate’.

The pair had clashed over a video promoting the new checks and fees for EU nationals living in the United Kingdom. While many branded the video ‘disgusting’ for its ‘upbeat’ tone, Hirsch simply said the video was ‘tone deaf’ for miscalculating the mood.

David, however, argued in support of the video.

He also believed that the £65 fee for adults was a small price to pay for EU citizens who were living in Britain.

He told the presenter: ‘You really hate this country more than Gina Miller – you’re anti-everything.’

‘You don’t value being British’.

Hirsch quickly lost patience with the caller. As she cut him off, she said: ‘I’ve had enough of you David, it’s always nice to talk to bigots.

She continued: ‘That really says it all… this summarises everything that is toxic about the Brexit debate.’
