Chaos. Disarray. Mayhem. But is anyone really surprised?

Brexit has been bedlam since the beginning – and there will be more confusion and tumult to come.

There will be no tears shed over the resignations of David Davis or Boris Johnson. Both were inadequate at best. But Theresa May needs to take some of the blame. Why appoint them? And why not sack them?

She tried to keep all the camps happy for too long. Finally she has squared up to the Brexit wing – and so far it appears she has the backing of most of her backbench MPs.

How she handles Johnson and Davis as they lob house bricks at her from the back benches at every opportunity is now key. It is vital she finally consigns this pair of Brexiteers to the bin.

Boris says his Brexit ‘dream is dying’ – thank the Lord.

Now is the time for the prime minister to be brave and pledge what more people are beginning to realise is essential: A People’s Vote.
