Nigel Farage has stooped to a new level of lowness as he told an audience full of Irish migrants in London that Brexit was comparable to their country’s fight for independence from British control.
Farage joined a special edition of The Late Late Show recorded in London, which was celebrating the Irish living in Britain when he made the claims.
He said: ‘The European Union is the most anti-democratic structure that has ever been designed by man.
‘They want to build a superstate with an army, and they’ve got their currency… What we did, is we looked at it and we said it’s not benefitting us in any way at all and we voted for one simple thing; independence.’

He added: ‘We wanted to be free to run our own country, run our own affairs, just as Ireland did 100 years ago.’
To outbursts from the audience, jeers, and boos he explained: ‘This is fascinating, why would you fight against British control for 500 years and now be happy to be governed by a bunch of unelected, old men in Brussels?
‘You can look at it how you want, if you’re part of the European Union, you don’t make your own laws, other courts rule over you.’

In a tense exchange with Alastair Campbell, also on the show’s sofa, he blamed the ‘chaos’ surrounding on Theresa May.
‘We were told half a million jobs would go, we were told terrible things would happen.
‘We’ve got unemployment now at the lowest for 40 years, British exports at record highs.
‘What I didn’t anticipate was what a completely hopeless Prime Minister we’ve got.
‘Without a doubt, the worst I have ever seen in my lifetime.’

In simple terms Campbell told Farage suggested it was time he took responsibility for Brexit.
‘You delivered it. You delivered it. Own your s**t, Nigel.’
