Persistence pays off for anti-Brexit campaigner on BBC News

While the presenter tried to interview Chatham House researcher Georgina Wright about development on Theresa May’s Brexit plan, Welsh anti-Brexit campaigner Steve Bray, who is staging a daily protest against Brexit, turned up behind the pair.

He was carrying signs with the messages ‘save the NHS’, ‘things have changed it’s time to reassess’ and ‘stop the Brexit mess’.

Despite the BBC’s best efforts to freeze him out of the picture, Wright had wised up to their attempts to hide his protest, skipping between both of the angles the director had chosen for over a minute.

Both the presenter and guest kept a straight face throughout.

On Twitter the anti-Brexit campaign SODEM – that stage daily protests outside Parliament – tweeted their thanks to those who shared the video.

They said: ‘Thank you. Just doing the job of the opposition.’

Journalist Simon Ricketts said: ‘The scene becomes a beautifully British cat and mouse game that speeds up perfectly.’ Another called it a ‘lesson in dogged persistence.’
