A German company has sent the Queen more than 1,000 rolls of luxury toilet roll in preparation for a no-deal Brexit.

Ninety packs of 16 rolls each were sent to Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace by Düsseldorf-based company Hakle.

Rather than graciously accept the gift from our European friends, the Palace rejected them through fear of a security risk.

Instead the 1,440 toilet rolls were sent to nearby secondary school Woodcote High School in south London, which decided to auction off the toilet rolls to raise money for Comic Relief.

The United Kingdom is one of the largest importers of toilet paper, with supply levels only expected to last a day before it needs to take more deliveries.

There had been warnings that a no-deal Brexit would spark a huge crisis for people requiring loo paper, which prompted the company to pull the publicity stunt.

A spokesperson for Hakle said: ‘As you have already noticed, our pallet with Hakle ‘Dream Soft’ was not accepted despite the threatening toilet paper scarcity from Buckingham Palace.

‘Instead, we donated our 90 packs to Woodcote High School in Coulsdon, which was very happy about the large stock of a total of 1.440 rolls of our soft toilet paper.

‘So our ‘Dream Soft’ has yet found its way and is now serving the British common good.’
