Vince Cable made a striking point in today’s one-on-one debate with Nigel Farage when quizzed about his MEPs’ plans in Europe.

During the debate, organised by The Telegraph, moderator Christopher Hope asked both leaders: “What are your MPs like, and how will they behave in the European Parliament?”

Cable said: “I would expect them to turn up,”

“And I will expect them to earn their salaries and their allowances, by doing a job.

“And if, as I expect, we are going to stay in the European Union, they’ve got five years of work.”

Farage has been recorded boasting about his salary and perks as a UKIP MEP, implying the EU is a gravy train, yet himself has been criticised for his poor work ethic.

As a member of the most influential fisheries committee, he showed up to just one out of 42 meetings and voted against any measures that would improve matters for British fishing.
