Who is on Question Time tonight and where do they stand on Brexit?

The BBC’s flagship current affairs programme tonight (3 May 2018) comes from St Albans, an area which voted 62.7% for Remain in the EU referendum in 2016. As the polls close for this year’s local elections prepare yourself for the political fallout by watching tonight’s show.

David Lidington

Who? Minister for the Cabinet Office

David Lidington voted and campaigned to remain in the EU back in 2016, but says now that ‘people in the UK took a democratic decision to leave the EU – and that is what we must now focus our energies on delivering’. Just this week David Lidington urged the Scottish Government to reconsider its decision to reject a deal he has agreed with the Welsh over which powers are immediately devolved under the EU Withdrawal Bill.

Chi Onwurah

Who? Shadow Minister for Industrial Strategy, Science and Innovation

Onwurah was one of 52 Labour MPs to vote against the EU Withdrawal Bill, breaking Jeremy Corbyn’s three-line whip. She has previously said she could not support a ‘Tory Brexit’ stating ‘we know that what the Tories do when they get the chance is undermine jobs and livelihoods in the North East, and their Brexit will be no different.’

Martin Lewis

Who? Money Saving Expert

In 2016 Martin Lewis backed Remain saying that a ‘vote for Brexit is unquestionably economically riskier than a vote to remain’ but refused to be drawn into campaigning against leaving the EU. He has more recently tried to ‘unspin’ the facts and fiction over Brexit from both sides. Expect to hear more from Lewis on his battle with Facebook over fake ads.

Camilla Tominey

Who? Royal Editor of the Sunday Express

Tominey is a journalist at the Brexit-backing Express. Last year she had a spat on TV with a Corbynista, claiming Labour were trying to derail Brexit in the interest of ‘being kind to foreigners’. She has continued her tirade against anti-Brexit voices in more recent TV appearances, so expect some fiery exchanges tonight.

Matt Forde

Who? Comedian

Forde joined the Labour Party when he was 15 but reportedly gave up his membership following the election of Jeremy Corbyn as leader. The state of politics in Britain features heavily in his comedy performances. He is firmly anti-Brexit, and Forde has made it the subject of much ridicule in his television series ‘Unspun with Matt Forde’. One of his most recent tweets on Brexit stated: ‘If Labour won’t seize the initiative of stopping Brexit, they will be left behind by those who do.’
