Does Daily Mail boss Lord Rothermere fear Keir?

Rothermere, who pays minimal tax on account of his non-dom status, appears to be fretting about Starmer's pledge to abolish the loophole

On Sir Keir Starmer’s birthday on September 2, 2020, the Daily Mail was huffing and puffing on its front page that people weren’t getting back to work and dredged up the rentaquote Tory MP Sir Charles Walker to tell its readers that people should get on with their lives as the epidemic was under control.

At the time, Lord Rothermere was fretting about his exhibitions business and Metro newspapers which both needed people heading back into city centres, but now, suddenly, the paper is turning on Sir Keir for having the temerity to go about his own life, by attending a small impromptu birthday party on that very day at his Durham HQ where he was photographed standing alone.

It’s clear Rothermere, who pays minimal tax on account of his non-dom status, is now fretting about Starmer’s pledge to abolish this handy loophole so beloved by the super-rich. This makes me thinks it’s Rothermere and not his editor-in-chief Paul Dacre who is really calling the shots at the newspaper group, and it was his avaricious lordship, after all, who decided to remove Geordie Greig as editor of the Daily Mail when he began to get too critical of Boris Johnson.
