The European Movement looks for a new chair

The pro-rejoin group is seeking a successor to Andrew Adonis

A plum job for Remainers has become available after Andrew Adonis stepped down as chair of the European Movement, which campaigns for rejoining the EU.

Adonis announced his resignation from the role last month, saying he wished to devote more time to writing and other initiatives. Vice-chair, former Green MEP Molly Scott Cato, is currently serving as interim chair.

Now the movement is looking for a “dynamic and committed” person to lead the organisation –the largest cross-party, pro-European membership organisation in the UK, with 200,000 supporters, over 100 branches and more than 16,000 members.

The successful candidate, who will be elected by the membership rather than appointed, will effectively become the face of its step-by-step campaign towards rejoining the EU and help grow its membership in what it describes as “a watershed period for UK relations with Europe”.

For more information about the role – which is unpaid – anyone interested can email Emma Knaggs on Emma.Knaggs@EuropeanMovement.co.uk. The closing date for nominations is February 6.
