Just why is the newspaper so keen to ensure that the former speaker is never elevated to the House of Lords?

The Daily Mail continues its campaign against John Bercow – does this count as bullying? – with the “revelation” that he perfectly lawfully claimed furlough for his wife, Sally, when their company Fedhead Limited suspended activities during the pandemic.

What is the real reason the Downing Street propaganda arm is so determined to see that Bercow should never be elevated to the Upper House, as is the tradition for former Speakers?

“He’s about the only one who really knows how things work at the Palace of Westminster,” an ermine-clad contact tells me. “And that makes him dangerous as Johnson tries to push through his raft of oppressive Brextremist legislation.”
